Francois Xavier CHAGNON dit LAROSE was born in 1636 in Rouen, Tours, France and emigrated to New France. He married Marie Catherine CHARRON, born 1666 in Montreal, in Contrecour, Quebec in 1679. They settled in Contrecoeur, a parish in Verchères county, Quebec, on the south bank of the St. Lawrence river, 30 miles below Montreal. It was settled as early as 1668, and in part of the seigniory of Contrecoeur, granted in 1672 to the Sieur de Contrecceur, an officer in the Carignan regiment., Here they had a family of at least four children.
Franciois and Marie's ggggg grandson, Joseph "Rene" LEFEBVRE apparently had a fleeting relationship with Euphemia SAUNDERS resulting in a daughter Jean being born out of wedlock in Port Elgin on November 24, 1915. Jean was adopted by Daunt and Louisa METCALFE of Greenock Township, Bruce County and they named their chosen daughter Florence Mae METCALFE.
